Journal Entry: Tue Sep 11, 2012, 8:06 AM

June 05, 2013

I meant to post announcements here the day before yesterday, but I had a family emergency. Apologies! Let's get this jam on the road, though.

If you're much like me about OCTs, when someone wins, you go back and you read that individual's round from beginning (audition), to the end- since that person's entry was just made canon to the OCT. I'll make it easy for you guys to do just that- here's some thumbs to flatw00ds's first pages.

Spook Chateau - Audition by flatw00ds Spook Chateau - R1 Intro by flatw00ds Spook Chateau - R2P1 by flatw00ds Spook Chateau - R3P1 by flatw00ds

(Just click on the links in the descriptions to get to the next page.)

Now, why would I point that out? 'cause Snow's prize of choice was a comic by we the judges! It will continue from the end of her round, and follow the backstory she set up. It will be a comic canon to the OCT, as well- so when it's done, it'll be submitted right here, for ya'll to read!

Keep an eye out for that comic.

And another announcement after the comic's out!

The time has come, my little friends, to announce the winner of round three- and the winner of the Spook Chateau OCT. There are many things I could say, but I'm fairly certain you got the gist of it in the last journal update, so I won't make you wait any longer. Just know that I'm proud of you all, whether or not you completed your rounds in the past, or even made it into the OCT at all.

This round, the final round, was somewhat thick to judge. We, the judges, sat in our little chatroom, buzzing away at this and that, pointing things out to each other and often, echoing/agreeing with one another about certain facts. There's plenty of feedback to be had, so if either of you want to hear what all was said about your round, please note the group.

That being said, I do believe I owe you all the result!

We can not congratulate you both, and thank you both enough, for coming this far. In the round, we read and picked over Mr-Haitch's and flatw00ds's comic entries. While both were impressive, someone had to win, and through much discussion my fellows and I came to a conclusion, settled on a name.

:iconflatw00ds:

Congratulations!

Both of you are going up on the front page of this group as winners, however- you made it this far, and we're glad to have had you! Additionally, everyone's entries and reference- even if you didn't get into the OCT!- will remain in the group's Spook Chateau I gallery, for future onlookers to see and appreciate.

Stay tuned for more announcements about the future of Spook Chateau!

 Ahhh, oh gosh. This has been a wonderful tournament. Awesome last round, too--Mr-Haitch, you were a fabulous opponent! Everyone was amazing, and I'm pretty sure I'll be going through old rounds to revisit the past few months.

I'm excited to see what the future holds! This definitely seems like a tournament you could expand upon. If you ever need a judge in the future, y'all know where to find me. c;

Oh wow this wasn't what I was expecting at all. I always found it a shame when people have to leave an OCT like that, but is understandable given the amount of time they consume. Now I find myself in the same sort of situation as SnowontheRadio is, suddenly having to wrap this all in. Oh boy. Time to improv like I always do in OCTs, heh.

Wow, dang! Not what I expected--kind of a 'yay' and 'aaaaaaaaaaaagggggh' combo, honestly! On one hand, I'm in the final round against an awesome and talented opponent. Which is totally a yay. On the other, my whole plot operated on the four-round structure (with foreshadowing and character introduction and etc). There's no way I can elegantly execute the plot I had in mind, so the whole damn premise has to be reworked.

Which is actually half the fun. It's going to be a massive pain in the ass, but the best part about OCTs is the improv! Lookin' forward to PLOTTING LIKE A LUNATIC. Good luck to you too, Haitch--can't wait to see what you come up with! This is gonna be a fun one.

Ahh I always did have vague scenes in mind if Beate had met Jeb, though those can't really work too well now considering what happened in both our rounds. We shall have to wait and seeee~

ALSO, heres a quick few sketches I did, since Beate does get an outfit this round, and doesn't just run around stark nude the whole thing. (Amount of blood may vary) [link]

Heh, it looks like we're both gonna have do some thinking about how it'll all play out! I don't know about you, but I'm dying to see Beate and Jeb throw down at some point.

And thanks for the reference! It'll be handy to have an updated one hanging around. c:

Sorry about that. We had a lot of drop outs this time around, which makes me sad because many of the dropouts turned in REALLY SOLID entries. But, challenges are half the fun!

Hahaha I always check everything late.
Darn work shifts.
Anyway from the comments it seems I missed a bit of news about someone being in the ER. I hope whoever that happened to is okay now and I hope it wasn't something too serious D:!
And also good luck to everyone, your rounds were all fantastic, looking forward to these next match-ups c:!

Matches posted on Monday? Is there really a need to wait that long? All of us are impatient to begin with and it really only takes five minutes to randomize the match-ups. There is really no need to keep us waiting any longer, and I'm sure many of us are losing interest fast with all these delays

I'm not sure where you read 'Monday', but the wait will be over soon! We understand how impatient one can be and are trying to accomodate everyone as fast as we are able. If you can sit tight and be patient we'll have your golden ticket into the next round slotted with your next opponent in no time. <3

...where in all that do you see Monday?

If you're going by the countdown, ignore it. The journal said nothing about the countdown. That's there for my judges just in case something came up with me.

I said 'later', which means, I have a document open and I'm likely going to post something in any amount of time.

..jeeze, man. We're human, too.

It's okay, I apparently should have specified that, even though it was a just-in-case thing. I'm not doing too good, health-wise, and it was just a thing I set up with the judges in case I disappeared on them and the round match-ups went with me. I think I did explain I was finding it hard to focus through the medicine, out-of-sorts and stuff? Muhh.. I'm sorry, guys, I've got the match-ups right here. <:c

Sorry, but I can only assume by what I saw on the front page, and what I saw was "Round 2 Countdown" and "Monday 11:00 am" so I assumed that meant that the matches would be posted Monday at 11:00. Maybe you should mention that or change the clock to avoid further confusion.

I think I didn't want to worry you guys even further with an explanation, as it was a medical reason. I figured a day would be okay to set it at, since it'd give folks time to see this journal anyway.

...I'm sorry for all the inconveniences, I'm doing my best in my current condition. I'm really very sorry for the grief.

I understand the impatience and believe me when I say it's time to get the show on the road, but please bear with us. In between one of our judges being in Europe and another one being in the emergency room as well as deciding who will stay after ending up with an uneven number, we just have one more tiny kink to work out. Please be patient. We don't enjoy being late any more than you do.

Nothing to worry about?! PFFFFT I'm personally worried about YOU! I hope you get well soon and never have to visit the ER ever again.
I've had plenty of ER visits in my lifetime for also potentially-fatal things, so I can sympathize with you there. It sucks, and I'm sorry that you're having to go through all that right now. Which is why I hope you get better, because NO ONE should have to deal with that kind of stuff, ever. ;;3;;

So yeah, I know I can't do anything on this end to help you out there, but I just want you to know that you're in my thoughts and prayers, and that I care. Not because of the tournament, but because I believe being ill all the time is one of the worst feelings that can really get you down. Here's to hoping you get better soon.

XD I say a week, but it could be less. At the longest, a week, should've said.

When it comes to judging, it's a bit time-consuming, and the judges have school and work to work around. Just want to give them time!

I really hope no one takes offence, because you've clearly given this a great deal of thought, but...I can't help but feel this is a little unfair. I truly want to see everyone do their best in this tournament, but I'd like to offer my best work, too. I had my round finished at the initial deadline, and once the extension was given, busted my behind to color the whole thing in the remaining time. And with this new extension, now what?

It's not that I don't mind extra time, in general! It mean that each contestant has better opportunity to work on their entry. But if I'd known about this (or either) extension ahead of time, I would have made my round longer, better crafted, with more pages and care. And I know some other folks are facing similar issues. When you have the deadline pulled out from under your feet like that, the work you rushed to finish is suddenly sub-par for two months. And then you have to make a decision: frantically work to bump it up to the next level, or shoehorn in new material, or just...sit on it, which is by far the least satisfying option.

Again, I really don't want to come off the wrong way; I know you have everyone's best interest at heart, and I appreciate you taking everyone's input into account. But it's disappointing to look at my work and feel cheated, thinking of how much better it could be if I'd known this previously. Two months is a lot of time. I'd rather spend the next few days looking forward to judging, rather than panicking about making an intermission comic.

We understand, and we're sorry. We were weighing what was best for all contestants as a whole, and the next rounds will not go this way. This was not how Pumpkin wanted things to go, but she based a decision on the input from her team. Now that we've heard your grievances the extension is being compromised to one week, no further grace. Again we're sorry about this and it will not go this way again.

Thank you so much for considering everyone's input. I know from watching and participating in a number of OCTS that it's very hard to run one efficiently AND keep people happy, but you folks have been doing your best, and it shows.

I definitely like how you're handling the new semi-extension; it's clear that the round is officially over on the 12th, given the start date of the judging, but there's still that nice grace period for people who are honestly trying to finish. It's a great idea! A happy medium, and I hope it helps everyone put out a complete round.

Seconded. Most rounds are a month long, we were given two, which should have accounted for finals and holidays adequately. There will be a couple exceptions, of course, but should we reward those who have been procrastinating, while leaving the hard workers to sit around twiddling thumbs, loosing enthusiasm in the tourny while they're at it?

All true, so I think we should give the people running this a MAJOR thumbs-up, in light of the recent compromise! I don't know about you, but I like that semi-grace week while judging's going on--you don't get away scot-free with a tardy entry, but it still gives latecomers some leeway.

Bugger. Come on guys, finals and holidays were in the way, yes, but it's been two full months. No one will blame you for resorting to sketchyness. Surely most peoples' issues are just a lack of planning and procrastination. My partner has worked her butt off the last couple days to assure our round would be completed on time. Now it's for buggerall.

Isn't two weeks a bit excessive? I'd vote one week, but only because I'd prefer no extension and I'm open to compromise.

We're sorry about this, and we understand. We're compromising it to one week with no further grace period. We were weighing what was best for all artists, and Pumpkin made her decision based on the input of her team. The next rounds will not go this way, and extensions will not be put on firm deadlines. We're very sorry and we hope that this works the best for everyone.
